At the end of March, we participated in a five-day study tour with our colleagues and NGO partners in Ghent (Belgium) and Leiden (Netherlands), organised by the International Childhood Development Initiatives (ICDI). We visited the childcare centres Palmboom, Wiegwijs and Nieuw Gent, which are an integral part of early childhood education and care in Belgium. Later, at the VBJK Early Childhood Innovation Centre, we heard presentations on their functioning, gained insights into childcare as a competent system and learned about the Ghent policy on integrated family services. Together with the participants, we reflected on the integration of services, cross-sectoral cooperation and the accessibility of the centres for families.
